Foods That Help You Study

Protein

Who doesn’t love a steak or a chicken sandwich for dinner? Not only do foods packed in protein taste great, but they can also help with studying and memory. Protein gives your body the fuel it needs to grow, heal, and function properly, but it can also help your brain retain information you need to ace your upcoming firefighter exam. While all sources of protein can be beneficial, lean sources of protein have been proven to have even more positive effects on your body, cognitive function, and even your mood. When studying for your written firefighter exam, be sure to include lots of protein in your meals and snacks.

Leafy Green Vegetables

Remember when your parents told you to finish your veggies as a kid? Now you really have a good reason to finish all of those leafy greens. Dark, leafy vegetables contain all kinds of antioxidants and carotenoids, which have been shown to boost the power of your brain. These vegetables are also usually high in B-vitamins which have been proven to aid with memory, focus, and cognitive functionality. If you can’t stand the taste of vegetables, B-vitamin supplements may be a suitable replacement, just be sure to ask your doctor before taking new vitamins and supplements to make sure your body can handle them.

Dark Chocolate

Who knew studying could be so sweet? Chocolate, specifically dark chocolate, contains powerful antioxidants that can help with brain function and memory. Dark chocolate also contains caffeine and sugar, which act as natural stimulants which can perk up your brain to help you focus. Make sure you ration your chocolate intake appropriately though, as sugar crashes can cause you to feel sluggish and tired instead of alert and ready to rock. An ounce is usually considered a good amount to give you the benefits you desire without causing a crash later on.

Avocados

While we don’t suggest paying eight bucks for avocado toast at your favorite brunch place, we do recommend adding avocados to your diet when trying to study for your firefighter test. Avocados contain healthy fats that help with natural blood flow throughout your body. These green fruits can also help keep you focused by boosting your brain cells. And because avocados contain around 15 grams of fiber, you can keep your body satiated longer. Avocados are perfect in the morning and can go with a large variety of dishes as a topping, garnish, or condiment.
